I contributed to the development and delivery of the Northern Peripheries Interreg Programme, which takes a spatial planning approach to developing innovative rural development projects involving partners from Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland. I assisted with framing programme objectives, identifying project opportunities, and with the project selection process. I facilitated aspects of the Nature Based Tourism project, and had oversight of its administration in Scotland.
I have been an active member of the Euromontana network of mountain regions and agencies. In 2005/6 I was one of the lead organisers of the Euromontana conference on Policies Releasing the Potential of Mountain and Remoter Areas of Europe, supported by OECD and FAO. The meeting focused on the link between public benefits generated in mountain and remoter areas, and socio-economic opportunities. I prepared briefing papers based on papers and discussion at the conference which have been used at follow up meetings with DG Agri and at the Euromontana Convention in Chaves.
